Below is a list of apps I use almost everyday in my small business.
1. First is Sell On Etsy , this allows me to sell my products for a listing fee and commission. It us a huge handmade marketplace that brings in many customers worldwide. Setting up a listing, keeping track of your stats and finances is all easy thanks to the selling app. It also allows me to respond to customers quickly. It has great features like the option to run sales, have shop coupons and see how many views your shop or specific listings have had. I highly recommend this for when you are first starting out.

2. Instagram is a close second and my main social media focus. The reason I focus on Instagram and have a love for the platform is because of the small shop community. The ability to share is it’s greatest feature as well as group chats. I love being able to have a little space to speak to other handmade business owners and also the chat I have with my lovely brand reps . Instagram is an amazing platform and a fantastic place to showcase your products and connect with likeminded people. Sometimes it can be frustrating, more so recently, when it is hard to be seen and engagement is low but ultimately it’s an amazing free marketing tool that should be used regularly.

3. Canva is brilliant for creating quick infographics, logos, highlight images or collages. It’s easy to use has lots of free options and the option for upgrades. I use it to create a cohesive set of images for online market nights. It allows me to save my brand colours and the templates I like most. I’d recommend it as an easy tool to work on your branding.

4. Facebook (Groups) I created a Facebook group as I wanted a space over time to post my blog, create polls and ask for input, also to advertise my in person markets and online sales events. I find the engagement is better in a group than a page but this is just my experience. My hopes for the future is to work more on my crafts kits and Bart’s Box so the group will be a space for people to show off their creations and ask for help if needed.

5. WeTransfer/WeCollect I use this app all the time! When i create my artwork I scan it in, edit in illustrator, it is then sent off to print. As I make such detailed artwork and large files it is hard to send more than one in Outlook so instead I use WeTransfer to send the files all together. I also download from my email into the wecollect app meaning I have access to the PDFs on my mobile… Amazing!

6. Lightroom is an incredible tool if you love photography, I use this for both my personal photos and Instagram photos or occasional Etsy photo. You can edit for free in the app or you can buy presets to create a cohesive look/ feed. I have made presets that lighten up the image a little and add a some detail that I use as a basic preset for my products, I’ve bought other presets that work well in the home and create a cosy vibe. Find a preset that works with your brand, I buy mine on Etsy and off sellers I find via Instagram.

7. Tiktok this is new to me! with just a handful of videos and no clue what I’m doing I can’t offer tips on this just yet but it’s a fun platform and similar to reels. I’ve discovered some lovely small shops via this app and find myself constantly watching packing videos like a strange stationery addict.

There are plenty more apps out there you can utilise, let’s not forget Pinterest, Twitter, Depop… the list goes on! Tell me your most used app in the comments.
