Cricut maker and how I use it.

I cannot begin to explain how much I wanted a Cricut and how long I have wanted one. I ‘ummed’ and ‘ahhed’ about it for about two years and It was an absolute goal of mine to get one. I am a major craft addict and I always have been. Name a craft and i’ve tried it, name a craft tool or supply and I probably have it. However, since having children do I have the time to actually do any of those things I used to spend all my time doing? No, not really.

So I held off getting one but avidly watched tutorials, saved Pinterest projects and dreamt of one day owning one to make EVERYTHING with. I felt like I could invest when my business was doing well enough for a certain length of time, I wrote down all the ways it could help me expand my product range and how it would make my job easier. I didn’t want to just do my usual thing and buy something just because it looked fun but instead I needed to know it was an investment and would help me grow my small shop (and that it would be fun too of course!).

So I looked at the items I make (stationery and party supplies) and the jobs I was outsourcing or spending a lot of my time on eg. sticker making, hand cutting cake toppers. I then had a think about where my shop was heading. I wanted to make pencil cases and bags to work alongside my products, i was also interested in making some more craft kits. In the end I invested in the Cricut maker, i was drawn to this one as it works with so many materials and especially as it works with fabric (sewing is a hobby of mine) and thicker materials such as mountboard (which i use A LOT), so I felt i’d get more use out of it overall.

It took me such a long time to decide as most projects I found were done using the design space Cricut app, or were basic shapes and wording. I really wanted to know more about how I could use my own drawings with the Cricut, I was a bit worried about the limitations but took a leap of faith and I’m glad I did!

Anyway fast forward and I have used this machine to create so many products already such as cake toppers, bunting, stickers, signs, fabric pouches, wall hangings and wooden flags. I absolutely love designing new items and love how I can now personalise absolutely anything! I’ve not only used it for my shop but also for making gifts and to decorate items in my home.

I aim to show you guys some beginner projects, more complex projects and how to create your own custom designs so follow along for lots of great tips as we learn together.

Take a look in my Etsy shop and try to guess how many of my items go through the Cricut maker before completion. Probably more than you think! Cricut is like a helping hand, an employee of mine that allows me to make more than I could by myself.
Have you got a Cricut machine? Or are you thinking of getting one? What’s stopping you?
